Rangamati "Lake City" of Bangladesh



Rangamati is one of the most beautiful district of Bangladesh. This district is based on a lake that was made around 1960. Most of the portion of it is water, means the lake. It is known as "Lack City". Rangamati has been a prime Bangladesh tourist destination for its location, scenic beauty, colorful tribal people, tribal homespun textiles and ivory jewellery.
Rangamati Hill District is the largest district of Bangladesh and 77 kilometers away from Chittagong. The town of Rangamati is located on the western shore of Kaptai Lake. Tourists from various parts of the earth flock to this place. It is a hilly area of Chittagong in Bangladesh. . It’s a district headquarters of Rangamati,the largest district of Bangladesh .The town of Rangamati is located on the western shore of Kaptai Lake.
The rich natural resources, diverse flora and fauna makes Bangladesh Rangamati an eco- tourism destination. A tourist can enjoy the nature in its true form with breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, lake and also colorful local tribe's. In Rangamati mainly lives the trives, such as Chakma, Marma, Tonchonga, Tripura, Mrung, Bome, Khumi, Kheyang, Chak, Pankhoa, Lusai. Tourist spots of Rangamati :

Kaptai Lake: The lake is the main attractions of Kaptai  which was built in early sixties. This large manmade lake of Bangladesh spanning over an area of approximately 11000km2, was created as a reservoir when the Kaptai dam was built during the 1960s. The lake was created by the valleys and floodplains between many hills. This created a picturesque views and wooded hills and plateaus instead of water. Suspension Bridge: One of the attractive spot is hanging bridge.   it’s a land mark of rangamati and most popular spot of rangamati. This 335 feet long bridge over a portion of the Kaptai lake is an icon of Rangamati. This bridge attract lots of tourist to visit rangamati.


Tribal Museum: The museum is located near the entry point to the city. Founded in 1978, is run by the Tribal Cultural Institute. Traditional ornaments, costumes, potteries, musical instruments, armaments, paintings and photographs, old manuscripts, statues and ancient coins of various tribes are on display here. It is open from Saturday to Thursday except holidays.

Shuvolong Falls: : Shuvolong a place in Borokol sub district, located about 25kilometers (11kilometers – as the crow flies) away from Rangamati. Few Waterfalls in Shuvolong with the greatest fall from as high as 300 meters. In the past several years, this place has turned into a tourist destination due to beautiful waterfalls and the nearby market. Shuvolong is easily accessible by speed boat or motor boats from Rangamati.

Kaptai National Park: This forest reserve is located in the Kaptai Karnafuly. The animal species of Kaptai National park are deer, elephants, monkeys, fishing cats and birds. According to the government statistics 50,000 people visits the national park every year as it provides some walking trails among the lush green forest. Kaptai Forest Rest House, Mukh Kaptai and several picnic areas are located here.

Rajban Bihar Pagoda : An internationally known Buddhist Temple, where the spiritualist principal monk of Rajban Vihara, Shrimath Sadhana Nanda Mohasthabir(Ban Vante) lives. Peda Ting Ting : A small island on the Kaptai Lake, few kilometers away from Rangamati. It is mostly known for its serenity. There are a few tourist accommodation facilities here and a tiny restaurant run by the locals. It offers foods ranging from traditional to indigenous delicacies.
Chakma Royal Palace: This is the palace of the present Chakma King. However, it is open to public for a visit. DC Bungalow Area : The District Commissioner’s Bungalow is located adjacent to the lake. There is a small light house and a shelter accessible to the public. This spot provides a nice view of the lake. Others : The local market is also a tourist attraction as it offers handicrafts, textiles and ornaments made by the tribal people.

Visit Rangamati during October to February as the temperature remains cool and usually there is no rainfall, however, the beauty of Rangamati unleashes during the monsoon as the forest becomes greener, bursts with life and the rivers and waterfalls becomes replenished.
There are several ways to reach at Rangamati. The best available is  bus service. It is quite impossible to arrive directly by air. You can go by air up to Chittagong airport. After arrived there you have to by bus.
There are several quality hotels from the district. "Parjatan Motel" is the best. But to get a room from there, you have to contact them around 4/5 days of your arrival. Also there is other hotels "Sufia", "Green Castle" available. You can pick any of those.
